This document models the heat absorbed at the face of a LIGO III cryogenic silicon test mass from the warm beam tube. The beam tube is simplified by modeling it as a black plate, parallel and coaxial with the test mass face. The distance to this black plate is assumed to be the distance to the edge of the heat shield, which may protrude partway into the beam tube.
