Abstract:
100 years ago, Einstein showed that matter and energy’s gyrations are continuously broadcast throughout the universe—in the form of gravitational waves, or ripples in the underlying geometry of space and time. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) has successfully completed a major upgrade. Advanced LIGO started its first observational run in September 2015 with a sensitivity far surpassing its predecessors.
