Abstract:

This document reports test results from optical contamination cavity tests of a nichrome wire wrapped around a fused silica rod while heated. This configuration may be used as a ring heater for the test masses for Advanced LIGO.

Notes and Changes:

The rate of absorption rate increase (at the 2 sigma level) was found to be slightly higher than the allowable level. This is principally due to the limited sample quantity. Particularly since the materials are inherently vacuum compatible, this material passes and may be used in its intended application as a ring heater for aLIGO.
