- There is an instability of the apparent beam spot due to the power fluctuation found in a pigtail fiber diode laser used as a light source for the optical lever system. The cause of the jump is presumably mode hopping in the laser. The effect can mimic tilt signals as large as 10 micro radians on the quadrant photo diode.
