Gravitation Wave Astronomy

This year on the 100th anniversary of Einstein's prediction of the existence of gravitational radiation, the LIGO collaboration announced the first direct observation of this radiation. I will describe the instrument used to make this measurement and some of the challenges encountered in building it. Then I will talk about some of the science which will be done using it and where we plan to go in the future.
