Abstract:
# aLIGO Timing System Data Flow Diagrams

These diagrams represent the flow of data in Advanced LIGO's (aLIGO) Timing
System.
They should be available on LIGO's Document Control Center (DCC) under document
number [D2200137](https://dcc.ligo.org/LIGO-D2200137), or at
[this git repository](https://git.sr.ht/~stc/timing-data-flow)

## Files

- `data-flow.tikz` shows the entire data chain; probably too much detail for
most uses.
- `data-flow-thesis.tikz` is a simplified version as used in Stefan
Countryman's thesis.
- `data-flow-trunk.tikz` shows the corner-station half of the full diagram (for
use in 2-column formatted papers).
- `data-flow-branch.tikz` shows the end-station half of the full diagram.

## Opening

These diagrams were generated using the free, cross-platform LaTeX/TikZ-based
editor [TikZiT](https://tikzit.github.io/) After installing TikZiT:

1. Launch TikZiT.
2. Press the `Load Style File` button (looks like a folder) in the GUI and load
`data-flow.tikzstyles`.
3. Open one of the files ending in `.tikz` to edit it.
4. Run `Tools > Make Preview` after editing to see if its to your liking.
5. Once everything looks good, save the file.
6. Right click on the image preview in the `Make Preview` window and click
`Export Image` to save as a PDF, PNG, or JPEG image.

You can add extra styles as needed; these will be saved in
`data-flow.tikzstyles`.
